Solar Flares

Understanding Their Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Impact

A Transmission by Colleen Nilsen | July 12, 2026

The Sun and Our Solar System

The Sun is the heart of our solar system. Its gravity holds our planetary system together, and its light and energy support life on Earth.

Solar activity can release radiation, energized particles, magnetic fields, and enormous clouds of solar material into space. When certain solar events are directed toward Earth, they can affect satellites, navigation systems, radio communications, electrical infrastructure, and Earth’s magnetic environment.

Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field protect people on the ground from the most harmful effects of these solar events. (NASA Science)

Many people also report noticing changes in their personal energy during periods of heightened solar activity.

While science clearly documents the effects of space weather on technology and Earth’s magnetic environment, many people wonder whether these energetic events may also be experienced through the physical body, emotions, intuition, and spiritual awareness.

Whether viewed through science, intuition, or a combination of both, solar activity can invite us to slow down, become more observant, and reconnect with our own energy.

The Science Behind Solar Activity

Solar Flares

A solar flare is an intense burst of electromagnetic radiation released from an active region on the Sun.

The radiation from a flare travels at the speed of light and can reach Earth in approximately eight minutes. Strong flares can disrupt certain radio communications, navigation signals, satellites, and spacecraft.

People standing on Earth are protected by our planet’s atmosphere and magnetic field. (NASA Science)

Coronal Mass Ejections

A coronal mass ejection, commonly called a CME, is a large cloud of magnetized solar material expelled into space.

Solar flares and CMEs are separate events, although they may occur together. A solar flare does not automatically cause a geomagnetic storm. Geomagnetic storms are more commonly produced when an Earth-directed CME or certain solar-wind conditions interact with Earth’s magnetic field. (NASA Science)

Geomagnetic Storms

A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance in Earth’s magnetic environment.

Depending on its strength, a geomagnetic storm may affect satellites, GPS, radio communications, electrical systems, and the visibility of auroras. (NASA Science)

Schumann Resonance

The Schumann Resonance refers to naturally occurring, extremely low-frequency electromagnetic waves that form between Earth’s surface and the lower ionosphere.

The Schumann Resonance is frequently discussed alongside solar activity within spiritual and energy communities. However, it is a separate physical phenomenon and should not be presented as scientific proof that solar flares directly cause physical, emotional, or spiritual symptoms.

The Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis

Auroras are visible examples of charged solar particles interacting with Earth’s magnetic field and upper atmosphere.

During strong geomagnetic activity, auroras may become brighter and may sometimes be visible farther away from the polar regions than usual. (NASA Science)

NASA and NOAA monitor solar activity and space weather daily.

Trusted resources are included at the end of this Transmission.

Possible Physical Experiences

During periods of heightened solar activity, some people report experiencing:

  • Fatigue or sudden changes in energy

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Ringing in the ears

  • Disrupted sleep

  • Vivid dreams

  • Feeling overstimulated

  • Body aches

  • Changes in appetite

  • Heightened physical sensitivity

  • Bursts of energy followed by exhaustion

  • Heart palpitations or flutters

These experiences vary from person to person and have not been scientifically established as being caused by solar flares.

Please seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional regarding any new, persistent, severe, or concerning symptoms.

Do not automatically assume that a medical symptom is caused by solar activity.

The Heart and Geomagnetic Activity

Solar flares themselves do not directly strike or harm people standing on Earth.

The scientific question being studied is whether disturbances in Earth’s magnetic environment—sometimes produced after an Earth-directed CME arrives—may be associated with changes in cardiovascular function or the autonomic nervous system.

Some observational studies have reported possible associations between geomagnetic disturbances and:

  • Changes in heart-rate variability

  • Changes in blood pressure

  • Changes in sleep or circadian rhythms

  • Alterations in the body’s stress response

  • Increased hospital admissions for certain cardiovascular events

  • Possible increases in heart attack, acute coronary syndrome, or stroke during some periods of strong geomagnetic activity

A 2025 systematic review examined studies involving myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, and stroke. The review reported possible statistical associations with geomagnetic storms, but it included only six eligible studies. The authors noted substantial limitations, including differences in research methods, populations, and measurements of geomagnetic activity. These findings do not prove that solar or geomagnetic activity directly causes an individual heart attack or stroke. (PubMed)

Researchers have also studied heart-rate variability, commonly called HRV. HRV measures changes in the amount of time between individual heartbeats and can reflect how the autonomic nervous system responds to stress and environmental conditions.

A large observational study reported an association between geomagnetic disturbances and reduced heart-rate variability. However, other studies have been small or have produced results that require further replication. The available research is interesting, but it remains preliminary and cannot yet be used to diagnose or predict an individual cardiovascular event. (PubMed)

What About Emergency-Room Reporting?

Some researchers have compared hospital admissions, emergency cardiovascular events, heart attacks, or strokes with recorded periods of geomagnetic activity.

These are generally observational or retrospective studies.

Researchers review patterns after events have occurred and look for possible associations.

They do not establish that geomagnetic activity caused a particular patient’s medical emergency.

Emergency departments evaluate medical symptoms such as chest pain, breathing difficulty, fainting, severe dizziness, or an irregular heartbeat. There is no established emergency-room diagnosis called solar-flare heart activation.

Many other factors can influence cardiovascular health, including:

  • Age

  • Existing heart disease

  • Diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • Medications

  • Stress

  • Dehydration

  • Poor sleep

  • Temperature

  • Air quality

  • Physical exertion

  • Other environmental and health conditions

A connection found in hospital statistics does not prove what caused an individual person’s symptoms.

Spiritual Heart Activation

Within spiritual and energy-healing communities, the words heart activation may describe an emotional or energetic experience involving the heart center.

People may describe:

  • Increased compassion

  • Emotional release

  • A feeling of warmth or openness around the heart

  • Greater sensitivity to others

  • A desire to forgive or repair relationships

  • A deeper connection to love, gratitude, or purpose

  • Awareness of emotions that have been held within the body

  • A desire to live more authentically

  • Feeling called to give or receive love more openly

  • A stronger awareness of the heart chakra

  • Feeling emotionally connected to humanity, nature, or the Earth

This is a spiritual and personal interpretation. It is not a medical diagnosis.

You can remain open to a spiritual experience of the heart while also respecting and protecting your physical heart.

A Heart-Safety Reminder

Do not wait for solar activity to pass if you experience:

  • Chest pressure, squeezing, fullness, discomfort, or pain

  • Pain spreading into the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or stomach

  • Shortness of breath

  • Cold sweating

  • Nausea

  • Fainting or feeling as though you may faint

  • Severe or sudden lightheadedness

  • A rapid or irregular heartbeat

  • Sudden unusual weakness

  • Extreme unexplained fatigue

The American Heart Association advises calling 911 when heart-attack warning signs may be present, even when you are uncertain. Fast medical evaluation can save a life. (www.heart.org)

We can remain open to the spiritual meaning of the heart while also respecting the physical heart. Self-awareness means listening intuitively, grounding energetically, and seeking appropriate medical care when the body is asking for help.

Emotional Experiences

As an energy practitioner, I have noticed that many of my clients describe emotional shifts during periods of intense collective energy, including:

  • Emotional releases

  • Anxiety or restlessness

  • Irritability

  • Unexpected sadness

  • Excitement

  • Bursts of creativity

  • Increased intuition

  • A desire for solitude

  • Relationship shifts

  • Sudden motivation

  • Bursts of energy

  • Extreme fatigue or emotional depletion

These experiences may not occur for everyone, and they can have many possible causes.

The purpose of observing them is not to become fearful. It is to become more self-aware.

Self-Awareness and Self-Care: This Is About You

At Full Moon Foundation, we teach people to observe their emotions rather than immediately resist, judge, or become consumed by them.

Begin tracking your patterns.

Notice what is happening within your emotional and physical body. Pay attention to your:

  • Sleep

  • Energy level

  • Appetite

  • Stress

  • Relationships

  • Emotional responses

  • Physical sensations

  • Intuitive awareness

Learning your patterns may help you understand what your body needs and how to care for yourself during periods of emotional, physical, or energetic intensity.

This is part of learning your personal energy blueprint.

Possible Spiritual Experiences

Think of heightened solar activity as turning up the volume within the energetic environment around us.

Rather than creating something entirely new, periods of intense energy may appear to amplify what is already present within us.

Tracking how you feel may help you recognize the rhythm of your own blueprint and understand how you personally respond to energetic changes.

Some people describe:

  • Heightened intuition

  • Stronger meditation experiences

  • Meaningful synchronicities

  • Vivid or symbolic dreams

  • Downloads of inspiration

  • Heart-opening experiences

  • Releasing old energetic patterns

  • Feeling called toward a life change

  • A greater connection to nature

  • Expanded spiritual awareness

  • A stronger awareness of what some call the sixth sense

These experiences are personal and subjective.

Allow yourself to remain curious without feeling that you must interpret every feeling, dream, or event as a spiritual message.

Protecting Your Energy During Solar Activity

This is a time to return to the foundations of what we teach at Full Moon Foundation:

Grounding. Earthing. Self-awareness. Rest. Energetic protection.

Step away from chaotic energy when needed and create space for intentional self-care.

Practices that may help you feel more grounded include:

  • Place your bare feet on the Earth.

  • Drink additional water.

  • Spend time in nature.

  • Reduce unnecessary screen time.

  • Practice slow, intentional breathing.

  • Journal or practice automatic writing.

  • Meditate.

  • Smudge

  • Work with Crystals and Essential Oils or Flower Essence Healing

  • Allow yourself sufficient sleep.

  • Eat nourishing and grounding foods.

  • Limit overstimulation.

  • Practice Reiki or another form of energy work.

  • Carry grounding crystals when they resonate with you.

  • Step away from conversations or environments that drain you.

  • Give yourself permission to rest without guilt.

  • Simply Breath

Protecting your energy does not mean shutting yourself away from life.

It means becoming more intentional about what you allow into your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual space.

Reflection Questions

Journaling and automatic writing may help you move through periods of intense energy with greater awareness.

Ask yourself:

  • How am I truly feeling today?

  • What emotions continue to surface?

  • What is my body asking for?

  • Am I carrying energy that belongs to someone else?

  • Where am I resisting change?

  • What is trying to emerge within me?

  • What can I release today?

  • What do I need less of right now?

  • What do I need more of?

  • How can I protect my energy without closing my heart?

  • Is my heart asking me to open, rest, forgive, or seek support?

  • Am I dismissing a physical symptom that needs medical attention?

There are no right or wrong answers. Allow your responses to come naturally.

Reflections by Colleen Nilsen

Rather than fearing solar storms, perhaps we can view them as reminders that we are part of something much larger.

The same Sun that nourishes every tree, ocean, animal, and living being may also invite us to pause, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves.

Whether you experience solar activity physically, emotionally, spiritually—or not at all—it offers an opportunity to listen more closely to your own inner wisdom.

We do not need to fear every energetic shift.

We can observe.

We can ground.

We can rest.

We can listen to our hearts while protecting our physical health.

We can learn the language of our own energy.

FMF Meditation

Solar Light and Heart Grounding Meditation

Close your eyes and take a slow, gentle breath.

Imagine a golden ray of sunlight entering through the crown of your head.

Feel this warm light flowing slowly through your body and every energy center, dissolving tension, restoring balance, and filling your heart with peace.

Allow the golden light to rest gently around your heart.

Imagine your heart surrounded by a soft, protective glow.

You do not need to force your heart to open. Simply allow it to feel supported, protected, and safe.

Visualize the light traveling down through your body, your legs, and into your feet.

Now imagine strong roots extending from the bottoms of your feet deep into the Earth.

Feel yourself becoming grounded, supported, and present.

With each breath, allow yourself to receive only the energy that serves your highest good.

With each exhale, release anything that no longer belongs to you.

Repeat quietly:

I am grounded. I am protected. My heart is supported. I am connected to the Earth. I receive only the energy that serves my highest good. I release what is not mine to carry.

Remain here for as long as you need.

When you are ready, slowly open your eyes and return to the present moment.

Trusted Solar Activity Resources

Solar activity is monitored daily by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, commonly known as NOAA.

For current solar-flare activity, geomagnetic-storm forecasts, watches, warnings, alerts, and space-weather conditions, visit the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. It is the United States government’s official source for space-weather forecasts and alerts. (Space Weather)

For educational information, solar images, and explanations of solar flares, CMEs, and geomagnetic storms, visit NASA Solar Storms and Flares. (NASA Science)

You can also view recent images of the Sun through the NASA and European Space Agency Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, commonly known as SOHO.

These scientific resources help us understand what is physically happening between the Sun and Earth.

Full Moon Foundation explores an additional reflective perspective—considering how periods of heightened energy may invite us to slow down, care for our bodies, observe our emotions, and become more aware of our spiritual energy.

A Gentle Reminder

Headaches, fatigue, dizziness, anxiety, disrupted sleep, chest discomfort, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fainting, or other physical and emotional changes should not automatically be attributed to solar activity.

Please contact a qualified healthcare professional regarding symptoms that are new, persistent, severe, worsening, or concerning.

Spiritual, meditation, grounding, and energy practices may complement appropriate care, but they should not replace medical or mental-health evaluation when it is needed.

Until Next Time

Protect Your Energy. Remember Your Light.
